Job Description

About the Role

This position will provide individualised support and case management services to First Nations young people aged 12-17 years of age who have disengaged from education. Services and supports will include undertaking assessments, development and implementation of re-engagement plans, family and referral and outreach work. Through the services provided, the First Nations Youth Worker will assist young people to remain in education or to reconnect back into education and training.

  • Hours:  22.8 hours per week (0.6 FTE), Part Time.
  • Fixed Term: until 31st December 2026.
  • Base Salary (SCHADS Level 4 ) $88,090.0 per annum (pro rate)  plus Super and access to Salary Packaging

You will have

  1. Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander identity, with strong connection to community and culture.
  2. An understanding of adolescent development and knowledge of social, cultural, and systemic factors that impacts First Nations young people’s engagement with education and learning.
  3. Knowledge and experience in appropriate interventions/skills required to support First Nations young people and families and a clear understanding of culturally responsive and safe case management, intensive support, crisis intervention and assertive outreach.
  4. Capacity to work with a high degree of cultural competency and understanding of culturally appropriate service delivery in relation to First Nations young people, their families and communities.
  5. Experience working with families and ability to use a range of strategies around family issues such as family violence, family breakdown and school withdrawal.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to liaise with a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
